ABOUT NCFD
The New Cumberland Fire Department has been proudly serving the community since 1896. In 1895, New Cumberland was the fifth largest town in Cumberland County. The town has seen its share of fires over the years and continues to experience a number of working fires every year. On average, the New Cumberland Fire Department receives approximately 300 fire calls and 800 EMS calls per year.
The New Cumberland Fire Department was officially established in 1966 when Citizens Hose Co. No. 1 and Elkwood merged. This merger is reported to be the first merger of two fire companies in Pennsylvania. By 1980, the New Cumberland Fire Department moved to a newly built fire station at 319 4th Street. The fire station is home to the company’s ladder truck, pumper, ambulance, and quick response unit, among other complementary apparatus. The company consists of over nine Line Officers, twelve Administrators, and Directors and over thirty volunteer members.
